Air Traffic Engineering (ATE) is responsible for the specification, installation, calibration, maintenance and testing of all electronic systems used by Air Traffic Services.
Communication
Any breakdown in communication between pilot and ATCO can result in a hazardous situation
Surveillance
The ability to detect key flight attributes such as position, level and intent in real-time.
Data Processing
The FDPS provide real-time flight information to the air traffic controllers
About
Maldives Airports Company Ltd is a fully government-owned company which is governed by a board of directors appointed by the President of Maldives.
As the designated air navigation service provider in Maldives, MACL delivers best in class service to airlines and pilots for safe and efficient air transport operations. Air navigation services are provided within the Maldives Flight Information Region (FIR) which has an area of approximately 500,000 square nautical miles.
To modernize and improve the air traffic control services, a new state-of-the-art system was commissioned at the Male Area Control center and Tower. It is a complete integrated automated air traffic control system which includes Automatic flight data processing, Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) and Air-Ground data link exchange functions.
ATE Content System
ATE content management system (CMS) consist of primarily about data on all the engineering activities associated with the Air Traffic Engineering Section.
Operational Units
The most advanced technology in aviation is being used to ensure safe and efficient air traffic in the following fields: Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS), ATM Data Processing and Meteorology. The evolution of the technical systems in use is driven by growing needs of safety, cost-efficiency, capacity and environmental requirements, and the introduction of new technologies.
Communication
The huge amount of various ATC voice and communication messages requires sophisticated, well-maintained infrastructure and high-performance systems and dedicated networks.
Reliable voice and data communication between controllers and pilots are of paramount importance for safe and efficient air traffic in controlled airspace.
Surveillance
ATS surveillance has been clearly defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It’s the ability to detect key flight attributes such as position, level and intent in near real-time.
Along with RADAR services, space-based and local ADS-B systems provides continuous global air traffic surveillance, thus the space-based surveillance component significantly improves air traffic management (ATM) safety, efficiency, predictability and capacity with the reduction in overall infrastructure costs.
Data Processing
The Data Processing Systems (FDPS) provide real-time flight information to the air traffic controllers and enable automated coordination between adjacent air traffic control centres.
Detailed aircraft information allows the air traffic management (ATM) system to predict the flight plan profiles of aircraft, which, along with radar track information, is used for safety tools such as medium and short term conflict alerts.
Power Supply
Air Traffic Management system demands high quality, uninterrupted power supply. The power supply unit of ATE plays a key role in delivering the infrastructure that powers the key equipment used at equipment facilities and provides the surety of a continuous power supply to support critical 24/7 operations.
